Beyond the Likes: Using Your Gifts to Glorify God

The carefree days of summer have come to a close, replaced by the familiar routines of fall. This transition can be a time of reflection for many of us, regardless of our profession or passions. The initial thrill of achieving a goal or experiencing a period of excitement might be tinged with a new set of questions: "What comes next?" and, more importantly, "What is my true purpose?"

It's during these moments of introspection that the concept of purpose takes center stage. The initial burst of recognition or success was exciting, but deep down, we crave something more fulfilling. The good news is, that the Bible assures us that there's a power beyond ourselves that equips us to find meaning in our lives. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:10 that we are "God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Our talents, experiences, and even our early successes are not accidents – they are pieces of a beautiful puzzle, a unique path God unfolds for each of us through the work of the Holy Spirit.

But here's the key: purpose isn't a solo act. We are all meant to contribute something larger than ourselves. As Jesus reminds us in Mark 10:44-45, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Imagine your talent or skill as a brushstroke in a larger masterpiece, a collective work of God's grace taking shape through the combined efforts of countless individuals.

Finding your place in this grand design might require a shift in perspective. Move beyond the pressure to maintain a certain image or chase external validation. Reconnect with the core values that fueled your creativity, passion, or initial drive in the first place. Remember the joy of using your gifts or skills to uplift others, to inspire them on their own journeys.

This might involve stepping back from the relentless pursuit of external validation and reconnecting with your local community or church. Volunteer your time, and share your skills in a way that contributes to something larger than yourself.

Remember, discovering and fulfilling your purpose is a journey, not a destination. It takes discipline, a commitment to self-growth, and a willingness to serve. Embrace these challenges, seek out support from your community, and trust that God has a greater purpose for you. As you use your talents or skills to make a positive impact, you'll discover a deeper sense of meaning and fulfillment that transcends fleeting achievements.
